A day of much eating
Today was a shorter day of biking so as to rest from the longer days. We planned to go 17 miles but it ended up being closer to 20. We stopped at about 11 o clock at a convenient bakery on our path. We went in and ordered not once but three times as we became more hungry. Very very yummy.
As we traveled though the countryside we found a large quantity of buildings that were built into the limestone cliffs. Apparently the caves there are quite old.
After supper we hiked the quarter mile into town to check out the ruins that stood imposingly on top of the hill. All paths closer to it were fenced off. But some rough bushwacking got us to the top.
On our way home we stopped by an ice cream shop and had wonderous dessert.

I love this entry, Lyle! You guys are having the best time, and doing a great job with food. Good for you! Glad you made it up to the ruins. And the houses with caves are amazing. Wine cellars inside? Love, Gma

ReplyDeleteLouise here. This sounds delightful. What were the ruins of?
ReplyDeleteChateau Montoir, castle started in 11th century, rebuilt in 12th, 13th and 14th, and has seen better days since then.
