Bakery disappointment!
Today we were fighting against a bad weather forecast and worked to get up and out faster than normal.
Luckily, the kids are pretty adept at this point, and we made great time with dry gear. It was important to note another milestone-
Which allowed the (not photographed) man and dog on the way from Madrid to Tokyo, (with bike and trailer) to repass us. A particularly odd crew, but good to keep our tiny goals in perspective.
Lyle suggested an early stop today so that we could be assured of good selection at the boulangerie, so after only 6 miles we did. Great selection, good looking fare, friendly baker, and as Alex declared "this just tastes like something from market of choice". That is not a compliment.
We struck out, disappointed but fortified, and made a record 24 miles by noon under occasional threatening skies.
With the forecast being for strong thunderstorms this afternoon, we preemptively chose to book a room in a budget hotel in Amboise. Since we are on an incredibly busy bike route (apparently to Tokyo) many places have all kinds of infrastructure for cyclists, like indoor parking-
We did take a lovely walk around the city, as I had hoped to get to see daVinci's tomb, but it was under repair. Also, getting into any of these castles seems to require an investment of 50 or more euros, and as Amboise has 3 Chateaus in town... we chose to eat lunch instead.
Important things like cat scritching are always priorities-
Between showers the sun comes out and Lyle and Liv got a good walk in
While Alex and I enjoyed some time reading.
Tomorrow's weather looks good and our distance looks reasonable, so hopefully we can find a reputable boulangerie and get back to the serious business of high carb riding.

You guys are good at flexibility! That's good. Great photos, as usual. So sorry about that MOC boulangerie! Nice job keeping track of the odometer, Lyle. Gma
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to find an inferior bakery to break the monotony. And thanks so much for sharing your adventures!
ReplyDeletean indoor bike parking garage! seems obvious. how you liking the roundabouts? did I miss pictures of roundabouts?
ReplyDeleteMadrid to Tokyo! With dog! Jeepers. Does the dog run alongside the bike or ride in the trailer? Great post, Dave.
